Samsung launched the Galaxy Watch4 series last year, the first equipped with the new Wear OS from Google, an operating system to which it also contributed with development. It has quickly become one of the best smart watches on the market, offering capabilities similar to what the Apple Watch offers and even a number of additional sensors. However, just like the Apple Watch, Samsung has proven that you can’t have top capabilities and long-lasting battery life. However, it seems that for the next generation, Samsung could opt for larger batteries, offering hope for a major upgrade in this regard.
The Galaxy Watch5 could receive a larger model with better battery life
Galaxy Watch4 came in several variants, but all integrated similar hardware and autonomy for about two days. It seems that for the Galaxy Watch5 series, the South Korean company could also develop a “Pro” model, larger in size and with a significantly improved battery.
SamMobile has published information about this possible model, already listed in the South Korean authorities’ databases, where a 572 mAh internal battery is specified. This is almost double that of the Galaxy Watch4, which offers a capacity of only 361 mAh. If last year’s could in some cases offer even two days of autonomy, we can expect at least one more day of use from the new model, if not more.
It looks like there will be small battery upgrades for the “non-Pro” Watch5 variants as well, but the improvements won’t be that big.
In the meantime, however, the competition is not doing much better. Watches like Huawei Watch 3 Pro or Apple Watch can offer 1-2 days of use. All of these models offer similar functionality, with complex app store, advanced sensor monitoring, sleep monitoring, and the ability to use chat apps to listen to music without using a smartphone.
