REVIEW Everything Everywhere All at Once – one of this year’s weirdest Oscar movies: why it has a good chance of winning

Everything Everywhere All at Once is one of ten films nominated for this year’s Academy Awards.

At the Academy Awards, it will battle for the big prize with All Quiet on the Western Front, Avatar: The Way of Water, The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, The Fabelmans, Tár, Top Gun: Maverick, Triangle of Sadness and Women Talking.

Beyond this category, Everything Everywhere All at Once also received nominations in the following categories: best lead actress (Michelle Yeoh), best lead actor, best director, best supporting actress (Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu), best costumes, best soundtrack, best original screenplay, best supporting actor (Ke Huy Quan), best original song, and best editing.

Why Everything Everywhere All at Once has a real chance of going home with many awards

If you haven’t had a chance to see Everything Everywhere All at Once yet, don’t expect a conventional movie to be on your bucket list by the time you get around to solving this one.

This film is anything but ordinary. I could go a bit further than that and say that Everything Everywhere All at Once is an odd, often hard-to-watch film with a script that reminds me more of The Butterfly Effect or even Mr. Nobody.

That the film will go home with at least three Oscars is already a certainty, given the record number of categories in which it was nominated.

However, I’d venture to declare that it will take the statuette even in the most coveted category, Best Picture. Not necessarily because it deserves it, since the creation is an exhausting merry-go-round you can’t wait to get off, but because this elitist recipe has worked in other years at the Oscars.

I really wish I wasn’t right, and I’m so glad with all my being for The Banshees of Inisherin. Time will decide which way the awards will rush.
