Renault is timidly resuming operations in Russia: Lada models to be launched

Renault-controlled carmaker Lada will resume production of Granta and Niva.

AvtoVAZ has partially resumed operations after suspending production due to supply chain disruptions.

Renault-controlled carmaker Lada has periodically shut down production at its factories in Togliatti and Izhevsk this month due to a lack of supply of electronic components.

He announced on Wednesday that he will resume production of two models, Granta and Niva, between March 16 and 18.

Production of other popular models, the Vesta and vehicles on Renault’s B0 platform, is on hold.

The company said it would announce a separate work schedule for the post-March 18 period.

The holiday has been brought forward

AvtoVAZ also said it would advance its corporate holiday to store more electronic components and ensure more stable operations.

The summer vacations, which were scheduled to take place between July 25 and August 14, have been brought forward to April 4, the carmaker told Russian news agencies. Avtovaz has tens of thousands of employees.

The car group said that sending employees on leave would allow the company “to accumulate the necessary components to ensure a more stable operation, starting with April 25, of the Togliatti and Izhevsk plants”, which stopped operations at the beginning of March.

The Renault car group, owned by Dacia, has a special exposure to Russia. Renault owns a 68% stake in Avtovaz, a Soviet-made Lada carmaker. In total, Renault depends on Russia for about 10% of its revenues, which means that it has the highest exposure in this market compared to other major international car manufacturers. Renault controls about 30 percent of Russia’s car market and nearly 40,000 employees in the country, according to Citibank.
