Energy drink brand Red Bull has revealed that it will host an official Tetris tournament in partnership with The Tetris Company. Described as “the ultimate Tetris tournament“The inaugural Red Bull Tetris event will feature the debut of “special power-ups” designed to showcase the skills of participating players.
Qualifiers for the event are now open to players over 18 years of age and of all skill levels. As part of the tournament, Red Bull Tetris will introduce a series of new game mechanics designed to test the skills of those looking to secure a spot in the National Finals.
For the UK, details about the qualifiers have yet to be revealed. Red Bull says the dates will be announced in the coming months. The winner will advance to the Global Final, which will take place December 11-13 at the Dubai Frame, located in Dubai’s Zabeel Park.
The Dubai Frame currently holds the record for the largest frame in the world, with a height of 150 meters and a width of 95 meters. The final game of the event will take place within the confines of the frame, where more than 2,000 drones will be used to represent the game pieces.
