Oppo announces Watch 3 series with Apple-inspired design and W5 Gen1 processors

Oppo has announced its new watches with WearOS and, as Qualcomm announced just a few weeks ago, these are the first to be equipped with the American company’s new wearables chipsets. We thus have the Oppo Watch 3 and Watch 3 Pro, which integrate the new Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 and W5+ Gen 1 processors. Both have Apple Watch-inspired designs, with square-shaped displays and rounded bodies all around.

Oppo Watch 3 are the first models with Qualcomm W5 Gen 1 processors

The Oppo Watch 3 is a “normal” sized smartwatch, integrating a 1.75″ diagonal AMOLED display covered with curved glass. The hardware configuration is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chipset 1 GB RAM, a 400 mAh battery and 32 GB internal storage. On the connectivity front, we’re talking Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and eSIM, all of which should work for up to 4 days on a single charge.

The watch also offers a “low power” mode that should be able to extend some basic functions to 10 days. The watch also charges relatively quickly, with 10 minutes of power providing a day’s use. A full charge, however, takes an hour.

The Oppo Watch 3 Pro is very similar in design and functionality, but benefits from an even larger 1.91″ screen, which can also be used in always-on mode, and a digital crown on the right side. The battery gets an upgrade to 550 mAh, for five days of use, and using eSIM over LTE, the battery life drops to 4 days. There’s also a low power mode, in which most of the processes are taken from the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 and moved to a proprietary Oppo co-processor, called the Apollo 4 Plus, so it can provide up to 15 days of battery life with limited functionality.

Both watches benefit from the same sensors instead: accelerometer, gyroscope, pulse sensor, pulse oximeter, ECG, barometric sensor and ambient light sensor. All of these can be used for monitoring over 100 sports activities, sleep monitoring, and use with many types of WearOS apps.

The Oppo Watch 3 series launches on August 19 in China, at 1,499 yuan (215 eur) for the base model and 1,899 yuan (270 eur) for the Pro variant.
