Novak Djokovic stole his 5th consecutive Wimbledon victory by beating the 20-year-old –

Novak Djokovic suffered defeat yesterday in the Wimbledon final against 20-year-old Carlos Alcaraz. The Spanish youngster eliminated the tennis legend in Djokovic’s first defeat in a 5-set match since 2019.

Alcaraz is the first person to win Wimbledon who is not among the big four (Murray, Djokovic, Nadal, Federer) since 2002. “Making history in this wonderful tournament, playing a final against a legend of our sport – for me it’s incredible. It’s amazing for a guy like me, 20 years old, to achieve this kind of situation,” he said.

Although he did not win the match in front of a home crowd, the Wimbledon crowd encouraged him during the four-and-a-half-hour match, which included some big names such as Brad Pitt and the Prince and Princess of Wales. King Felipe of Spain was also there to witness the performance.

Djokovic was emotional at the defeat, but still congratulated his opponent. In the women’s final, Marketa Vondrousova defeated Ons Jabeur to become the first unseeded Wimbledon champion in women’s tennis. Her recovery from wrist surgery last year was considered one of the highlights of the entire tournament and her victory put a fairytale ending to that story.
