Netflix, Disney+ and HBO have a new competitor in Romania. What is SkyShowtime and what movies and series you can watch

Currently, the most used streaming platforms in Romania are Netflix, Disney+ and HBO GO. However, soon Romanians will be able to enjoy another market competitor, SkyShowtime. Find out which films and series you’ll be able to watch on the new platform.

Amazon Prime, Netflix, HBO Go and Disney+ are enjoying real success in the Romanian market. But another streaming platform will soon be joining them – SkyShowtime. This new platform will host titles from the best-known production houses such as Universal Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Nickelodeon, DreamWorks Animation, Paramount+, Showtime, Sky Studios and Peacock.

Company representatives said they are preparing to launch the platform in Eastern Europe, including Romania, next February. I’m sure many of you are wondering about the monthly cost of access to the new platform. For example, in Portugal, the service has recently been launched and the price is €5 per month.

So countries such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia will be able to enjoy the new streaming platform from 14 December 2022. In Romania, Albania, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Northern Macedonia, Poland and Slovakia, the new service will arrive from February 2023. Currently, company representatives have not announced an official price for access to the platform in the latter countries.

And that means exclusive access to the latest series and movies produced by our world-renowned studios, as well as a premium range of quality local entertainment. After successful launches in Northern Europe and Portugal expanding into these important markets and bringing SkyShowtime to even more customers in Europe is a crucial moment for us,” according to a statement by Monty Sarhan, CEO SkyShowtime.

SkyShowtime will premiere the most popular movies, premium series and children’s content. The selection of titles will be high quality, as they are from the world’s biggest production houses, as mentioned above.

Subscribers will also be able to enjoy original local programmes, documentaries or specials. SkyShowtime was launched this year on 20 September in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. On 25 October, the service became available in the Netherlands and Portugal. Expansion will continue in Spain, Andorra, Central and Eastern Europe throughout Q1 2023.
