One reason the adoption of foldable phones has been rather slow over the past few years has been the high price of these devices compared to “traditional” smartphones. It seems that even in 2022, the prices of these models won’t come down, with rumours of the new Motorola Razr 2022 suggesting that it will cost more even than Samsung’s direct competitor, the Galaxy Z Flip4, launched in August this year.
With similar hardware and a similar design, Motorola could charge more on the Razr 2022 than Samsung is asking on the Flip4
The Razr 2022 has already been out in China for a few months, and in this region, the price starts at 6,000 yuan, equivalent to €865. That’s not exactly a steep price, considering the phone comes in a version with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage alongside a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor. However, in Europe, the price will be significantly higher, according to Ronald Quandt of WinFuture.de.
He posted on his Twitter account that he has information that the Razr 2022 will start at a price of over €1,200 in Europe when it finally launches. The phone was expected in early September, alongside the Edge 30 series models, but Motorola has decided to push it back a few extra weeks. Quandt, the source of this information ironically says that Motorola will “probably” sell 5, or maybe 6 units of the Razr in Europe, suggesting that the price would be too high for what the phone offers.
Motorola RAZR 2022 is about to launch in Europe. At a lovely 1200+ Euro price they’re probably gonna sell like 5 of them. maybe 6.

The Samsung Galaxy Flip4 starts at €1,100 for a similar configuration, but from the start it’s been included in all sorts of promotional campaigns and at great deals. In Romania, you could get a €150 discount off the original pre-order price, for example.
It looks like the Motorola Razr 2022 will be officially launched in Europe very soon, probably just before the end of October.
