Two years ago, developer Chibig launched a kickstarter for their latest game Mika and the Witch’s Mountain. The kickstarter was a true success and the game raised more than a million euros. The game was released last year for Nintendo Switch and has recently become playable on the other major consoles. We got to check out the Playstation 5 version of the game and below you can read our findings!
The story begins when you stand as Mika on top of a mountain. You are given a test to get back on top of the mountain and before you know it you are thrown off the mountain. Do you manage to get back up the mountain your training for witch starts. As you might expect, you don’t succeed right away and your broom breaks. Fortunately you landed in a village with many friendly residents who are open to help you get a new broom and achieve your mission, but this will cost money and time.
So in what way should you start earning money would you think? Well in the case of Mika you become a package deliverer. It so happens that the company in town is looking for new package deliverers. By delivering packages you will also learn more and more about the city and the people who live there. Also, the further you progress in the story, you will get better brooms and face increasingly difficult challenges. With each new broom, you also get new abilities that you can use in the environment.
Delivering packages sounds easier than it is. What I said is that in the beginning you have to deal with a standard broom with which you can’t really do much so delivering the packages becomes a thing. Also, each package has its requirement. One must be delivered within a certain time, the other must not get wet and you must not bump too much because of the danger of breaking. So you always have a difficulty in delivering a package. If you make a mistake it is no problem and you can have your package reset and the package will be returned to the person who delivered it to you. This ensures that you can play very relaxed and actually feel no pressure and just enjoy the game.
Graphically, the game looks colorful and cheerful and the light-hearted story and relaxed gameplay will make you feel happy yourself. The nice thing about the game is that you set your own pace and don’t have to rush for anything or anyone. You can go out and explore the island first and then do the missions to progress further and further in the game.
What I personally found unfortunate is that Mika and the Witch’s Mountain is on the short side. The game has 5 acts in which you can walk around and fly and do missions. The game itself is not expensive, for the price of €19.99 you won’t make a mistake and it stands up well to the length of the game.
I personally encountered few to no bugs in the game which is also very nice because this way you can play through the game nicely without bugs.
Conclusion
All in all, Mika and the Witch’s Mountain is a relaxing game where you can walk and fly around and do everything at the pace you feel comfortable with. The colorful and cheerful environments will also make you happy. For the price of €19.99, Mika and the Witch’s Mountain definitely comes highly recommended as a fun snack.
