Artificial Intelligence (AI), ChatGPT and Machine Learning have now taken a firm place in our everyday lives. Now Mercedes is striving to enable conversations with ChatGPT while driving.

The German car manufacturer has announced that it will expand its language assistant with the OpenAI language model. However, there are some concerns about the reasons behind this decision and privacy issues are at the forefront of the discussion.

Ask for recipe ideas while driving – that’s possible now

A new beta program for Mercedes customers in the US starts today. It includes ChatGPT integration with its voice assistants MBUX. To participate, owners of a compatible vehicle simply need to say “Hey Mercedes, I want to join the beta program.” The update will then be downloaded.

Once the update has been completed, you can activate the voice assistant with “Hey Mercedes” as usual and ask questions. The difference: Now ChatGPT responds. As usual, you get answers to complex questions and the opportunity to have more advanced conversations – with your car.

All answers will be above Language spent so that you can continue to concentrate on the road. According to Mercedes, you can easily find out interesting facts about the destination or ask for recipe ideas while driving (?).

You have to decide for yourself how useful it is to talk to ChatGPT about recipes while driving, but there is also a questionable purpose outside of it Concerns about privacy.

Mercedes states that all conversations stored, anonymized and then analyzed become. The car manufacturer assures that data protection is their top priority and that they retain sovereignty over IT processes at all times.

Mercedes has not yet announced when and if the new feature will come to Germany. The beta phase in the US started today. What do you think of this project?
