Japanese auto giant Mazda has now announced that it will drop purely internal combustion engine-powered cars for the next generation of the MX-5 Miata. According to Motortrend, Mazda has said that the next version of the vehicle will be electrified in some state, but as for the details of this, that is yet to be confirmed.
This does mean that the next MX-5 Miata could be purely electric, or instead a hybrid, meaning a world where the combustion engine remains in the vehicle, but is now supported by an electric motor.
Either way, Mazda claims this new take on the car will debut in 2026, so it shouldn’t be too long before we find out the details of what the electrification will entail.
