The LCSthe franchised league of League of Legends in North America, has revealed that the 2024 spring finals will take place at the Riot Games Arena in Los Angeles.. Carlos Antunes, Head of League of Legends Esports for the Americas at Riot Games, has communicated that the decision to remain at the arena for the Finals is due to a reduction of the ‘roadshows’ that will take place in the LCS and LLA.
Roadshows is a term used by Riot Games to symbolize the travel schedule. of its leagues to various locations around the country outside of Riot’s original facilities. Last year, the LCS Spring Finals took place at the PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Antunes noted that there will be a roadshow for the LCS Summer Finals. However, Riot Games stated that the decision not to travel for the Spring Split is due to the fact that it will be has prioritized investment in other areas of the league.
Reviewing our investments is not just an LCS consideration, and we are following in the footsteps of other regional leagues in adjusting the number of roadshows. When deciding how to distribute the money we invest throughout the season, our goal is to prioritize what has the most impact for fans and players. This year we are very focused on innovating around the spectator experience, making the show more entertaining than ever and celebrating the best of our league.
Statement from Riot Games
The reduction in the number of roadshows is in line with the LEC, Riot Games’ EMEA competition. Last year’s transition to having three Splits, along with a main event, resulted in the finals being the only LEC event held outside of its Berlin arena.
Riot Games’ announcement that the Split finals will take place at its facility follows news that the video game publisher laid off 11% of its staff. LEC and LCS esports staff have been affected, and plans to launch a streaming platform have also been scrapped.
The LCS itself has also undergone some changes in 2023, most notably the league has reduced its number of franchise teams from ten to eight. Following the departure of Golden Guardians and Evil Geniuses, the league has also returned to weekends, after airing on weekdays last year.
