Khamenei grants pardon or reduced sentences to more than 1,800 prisoners in Iran

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Thursday granted pardon or reduced sentences to more than 1,850 convicts on the occasion of the celebration of the anniversary of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad.

The list, which includes 1,862 names, was sent to Khamenei by the leader of Iran’s judicial apparatus, Mohseni Ejei, and includes the names of people convicted by civilian and military courts, Iran’s Mehr news agency reported.

Article 110 of the Constitution guarantees the supreme leader the right to pardon or reduce sentences for convicts on the recommendation of the head of the judiciary.
