Intel halts production of Bitcoin ASICs

The giant American put a term to its incursion in the mining from bitcoins. Intel Will continue to “ monitor the market opportunities “.

A little over a year after entering the bitcoin mining segment, the famous processor manufacturer Intel announcement cease the chip production dedicated to this activity.

In early 2022, Intel introduced the Bonanza Mine, a ASICs embedding 300 BMZ1 chips, followed by its big brother Bonanza Mine 2, notably adopted by the company specialized in bitcoin mining Hive. Earlier this year, Hive then deployed 1500 BuzzMiner with the Blockscale from Intel.

“While we are prioritizing our investments in IDM 2.0, we have discontinued the Intel Blockscale 1000 Series ASIC while continuing to support our Blockscale customers,” an Intel representative said, noting that the company would continue to “monitor market opportunities.

The decision comes as the situation improves for miners with the recent rise in the Bitcoin price. Today, the main manufacturers of ASICs are Bitmain and MicroBT.
