IGN owner Ziff Davis sues OpenAI -.

Digital media publisher Ziff Davis is suing OpenAI, alleging copyright infringement by the AI company. Plaintiffs include Ziff Davis, IGN and Everyday Health Media.

In the lawsuit, first reported by The New York Times and filed in federal court in Delaware, Ziff Davis alleges that millions of articles created by Ziff Davis’ many publications were unlawfully used in training the bot ChatGPT.

The lawsuit alleges that OpenAI “intentionally and ruthlessly reproduced exact copies and made derivatives of ZiffDavis Works without Ziff Davis’ permission.” Via a comment to Reuters, an OpenAI spokesperson stated that its AI models were “are trained on publicly available data and are based on reasonable use.”

As AI continues to take off and more bots are trained in murky waters, this case involving Ziff Davis is just one of a series of lawsuits popping up against AI companies trying to train more chatbots.
