Hot Rod Mayhem Review ( PS5 ) – That’s Gaming

Coming soon on the Nintendo Switch 2 is a great new kart title namely Mario Kart World Tour. To briefly warm up our hands for Nintendo’s upcoming kart game, I got to have fun with Hot Rod Mayhem for the Playstation 5. Does this title manage to be as fun as the aforementioned Mario Kart or is it better to leave it alone? You can read about it in this review of Hot Rod Mayhem!

I talked earlier about Mario Kart World Tour which is going to be released next month but I shouldn’t really compare Hot Rod Mayhem to that. Hot Rod Mayhem is a small title that fortunately also has a small price. In fact, you can pick up the game for just about €20. The content you get for that is also quite enough for the money.

You can choose from two modes in the game namely Circuit Race and Cup Race. What is nice is that you can play these two modes with four players locally co-op. The Cup races are easy and average. If you really want a challenge, set the game to the hardest difficulty.

What do you have to do in the game? As I said before, it is the Cup racing that makes the game interesting, because every time you win a cup, you get a new item. This can be a new vehicle, appearance modification or new character. The most fun is to collect everything by getting the cups.

In the races you are often opposed by opponents this is because they can use tool boxes. In these boxes as you know from for example Mario Kart there is an item that you can use to thwart your opponents. Also, the circuits have many obstacles in the different races to make your life difficult.

Hot Rod Mayhem offers you a total of 10 different courses that are laid out in different ways. For example, you have the normal version of one ride and you can get it again later but in mirror image, for example. The nice thing is that none of the courses is the same and provides quite a challenge.

If you want to get everything out of the game in total, you will be busy for about 5 to 6 hours. Fortunately, you can still play with friends on your system because unfortunately the game lacks an online feature.

Conclusion

Hot Rod Mayhem has potential but unfortunately falls short due to the absence of online multiplayer. There is also little variety in the necessary items you can use to thwart opponents. All in all, a nice game for the €20 price the game costs. But it is not much else special.
