Google could launch a full range of smartphones, including foldables

The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro might not be the only high-end phones Google has in store for the near future, as the US company wants to compete much better at the high-end range, delivering products at least as good as Apple and Samsung phones.

The selection of devices looks set to include foldable phones, with Google looking to counter Samsung in a market segment where the South Korean company. According to rumours started in China itself, Google has decided to go ahead with the production of its first foldable phone, with it to be produced and shipped in sufficient volume for commercial launch by manufacturer Foxconn. What’s more, the device is reportedly already in mass production, and it’s only a matter of time before the launch is officially announced.

As for the names being bandied about, expectations are divided between Pixel Fold and Pixel Notepad, with the latter variant involving a stylus, with the usual software optimizations. Without leaving too much room for interpretation, evidence of the new smarpthone product has already appeared in the Android firmware itself, slipped into the Google Camera app code.

As for the features on offer, expectations are for a mid-range configuration, with a screen around 5.85 inches diagonal and a Pixel 5-like photo setup, organized around a 12.2MP+16MP resolution photo module. Of course, these could be provisional features, reserved for the prototype device, masking

Another rumor is that the Pixel 7 Ultra is in the works, a top-of-the-line Pixel 7 Pro trim with a 2K display and ceramic-finish casing. It would feature a 100MP or 50MP camera based on the Sony IMX787 sensor, or the 50MP ISOCELL GN1 version. The latter could easily be applicable to the secondary camera as well, possibly coupled with a periscope lens system for optical zoom.
