Amazon has officially confirmed in an online post that it will develop a God of War TV series.
The TV series has been rumored for a while, with some saying Sony had a hand in developing it. It looks like Amazon will do it this time along with various other games being adapted into TV series.
Other TV series adaptations follow, such as the Fallout series and a Mass Effect series. HBO’s Last of Us TV series will air next year.
On Prime Video’s official Twitter account, Amazon confirmed that it will adapt the epic game franchise into a TV series. The post includes the text “God of War is coming”, along with an image of the God of War 2018 release attached.
A beloved game
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the game will be adapted by Wheel of Time showrunner Rage Judkins and The Expanse creators Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby. Santa Monica Studio creative director Cory Barlog, along with Yumi Yang, PlayStation Productions Qizilbash and Carter Sawn, and Vertigo’s Roy Lee will work on the adaptation. Jeff Ketcham of Santa Monica Studios will serve as co-executive producer.
Vernon Sanders, director of global television at Amazon Studios, said:
“God of War is a compelling, character-driven franchise that we believe will captivate our global customers just as much with its expansive, immersive worlds and rich story. We are honored to share the adventure of exploring the mythology of the God of War in such an important way with Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions and Santa Monica Studio.”
The TV series will adapt the 2018 God of War story, where Kratos begins the story by preparing his wife Faye’s funeral pyre with his son Atreus. They will then set out on a journey to fulfill their final wish, to scatter his ashes on the highest peak of all the realms.
