Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has received little to no updates since its announcement in 2021, and considering that announcement was just a short cinematic trailer, we know little about the game – except that it will be a first-person open-world title set on the planet Pandora.
Now, however, several new details about the story and gameplay have come out, thanks to a new leak. Well-known Ubisoft leaker @ScriptLeaksR6 – who also recently leaked the game’s pre-order details and a new gameplay screenshot – has shared potential details about the open-world title’s story, weapons, traversing mechanics, open world and more.
According to the leak, the player in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will play as a Na’vi who was kidnapped as a child by the Resources Development Administration (or RDA) and “trained and molded to serve their purpose,” but must now “regain your ancient heritage and join other clans to protect Pandora.” The game will reportedly take place on the Western Continent, a “never-before-seen” continent on the planet, and will consist of “beautiful but unpredictable open-world regions, where lowering your guard can lead to deadly mistakes.”
When it comes to combat, players apparently have access to a variety of weapons, both Na’vi and human, as the protagonist has also received rigorous human training. Na’vi weapons include a bow and a spear thrower, while human weapons will be more of the conventional variety, such as assault rifles and shotguns. As for progression mechanisms, players will reportedly customize their character by creating new gear and upgrading skills and weapons.
In addition to battles, players can capture their own personal Banshee and bond with it, which is what you would expect in a game based on Avatar. Banshees are used not only for aerial combat, but also reportedly for long-distance travel across the open world.
These are all unconfirmed details, of course, but given how leaky the Ubisoft ship has been for so long, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them officially confirmed soon. Either way, until then, this is just a rumor. An Ubisoft Forward showcase is scheduled for June 12, so we’ll likely learn more about the game soon.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X / S and PC. The game is scheduled to release sometime before April 2024.
