Serafini Productions and Shochiku today launched their immersive psychological horror game BrokenLore: DON’T WATCH on Steam, along with a brand new trailer.
Set largely in a claustrophobic six-square-meter apartment in Tokyo, DON’T WATCH follows Shinji, a young man who has cut himself off from the outside world. Trying to escape overwhelming social pressures, he becomes the embodiment of the hikikomori phenomenon – a state of extreme social withdrawal. However, his isolation is tested when a nightmare unfolds: a relentless, all-seeing fear from Japanese folklore.
Inspired by the myth of Hyakume – a monstrous creature with a hundred unyielding eyes – DON’T WATCH transforms the simple act of watching into a test of survival. In this world, eye contact with Hyakume is not just a moment of fear – it is deadly. The gaze, as if wielding a knife, threatens to stab you straight into your being, making it necessary to cover your eyes at crucial moments.
Developed in collaboration with a professional psychologist, the game artfully delves into themes of fear, isolation and the unyielding cycle of societal judgments while offering an experience that is as engaging as it is thought-provoking.
DON’T WATCH is the latest addition to the BrokenLore series – a universe known for its exploration of contemporary anxieties and societal themes such as social pressures, isolation and fear. Following the success of BrokenLore: LOW, this new game enhances psychological depth with hyper-realistic visuals interwoven with evocative retro segments, broadening the story and atmospheric tension.
