Diablo IV, the highly anticipated new installment of the iconic Diablo series, is now live. It is already Blizzard Entertainment’s fastest-selling game of all time, with the highest recorded number of pre-launch unit sales ever on both console and PC. In the four days since early access began on June 1, Diablo IV has been played more than 93 million hours, equivalent to more than 10,000 years – the equivalent of 24 hours of daily play since the dawn of human civilization.
Diablo IV offers cross-platform play and cross-progression on Windows PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, with support for up to four players in co-op, including two-player couch co-op on consoles.
“This is a moment the Diablo IV team has been working toward for years,” said Rod Fergusson, general manager of Diablo. “We are extremely proud to offer players the richest story ever told in a Diablo game. Players have several choices, including personalizing their characters, equipping them with personal skills to fight terrifying demons, or collecting Legendary loot To support your play style and discover new ones. Since the game’s announcement in 2019, the support of millions of players around the world has led us to this release of our dark vision of Sanctuary. Hail Lilith, Blessed Mother.”
“Our vision at Blizzard is to create legendary experiences to share, and Diablo IV is an incredible realization of that vision,” said Mike Ybarra, President of Blizzard Entertainment. “With highly customizable gameplay, immersive storytelling and countless options for interacting with the world, this masterfully crafted expression of the Diablo universe is an excellent example of what our talented development teams are capable of. Whether you’re a veteran of the series or diving into Sanctuary for the first time, we warmly welcome players to the global launch of Diablo IV.”
Set 50 years after the events of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls, the story of Diablo IV begins with the summoning of Lilith, Daughter of Hatred, back to the mortal realm of Sanctuary. The land has been taken over by horrific creatures and only the bravest souls will be able to resist the threat of chaos. Players can customize their gameplay experience in the direction that appeals to them, experimenting with skill trees to display complementary spells and skills as they fight to return Sanctuary to its citizens.
Diablo IV offers a vast upper world that players can explore as one of five classes: the shape-shifting Druids, agile Rogues, elemental Sorcerers, brutal Barbarians and ritualistic Necromancers. There is no established path; players choose how they want to progress, whether it is by focusing on Lilith or exploring the dark corners of each region as they build their skills. The land of Sanctuary is diverse, with different biomes and demonic creatures. Players will test their mettle in five regions, with more than 120 dungeons and dozens of side missions, while battling World Bosses and plagued Strongholds exorcise in a shared and cooperative open world.
But it doesn’t end there. After completing the main story, players can explore extensive endgame activities to continue their adventures and become even more powerful. From the challenging and regularly occurring Helltide to the demonic Nightmare Dungeons; there are numerous ways for players to take advantage of the updated Paragon Board system and further customize their adventures. Also, the Whispers of the Dead introduced, which offer legendary rewards for selected world bounties, and the Fields of Hatred, which provide designated areas for fighting other players and building PvP fame. In addition, players can stay involved in what’s happening in Sanctuary with regular releases of Seasons and Expansions, which offer new gameplay features, quest lines, characters, challenges and legendary loot.
