Christian Bale, the master of improvisation: what the actor had to say about his role in Thor: Love and Thunder

Christian Bale recently spoke about how his role in Thor: Love and Thunder could have been even darker.

The Oscar-winning actor is known for the exceptional way he plays his roles, with American Psycho and The Machinist, for example, bringing him into unique situations. Even in high-profile roles, particularly in the Christopher Nolan-directed films culminating in the Batman trilogy, Bale has done a tremendous job.

When he took on the role of Gorr the God-Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder, many fans expressed surprise at his choice, even though the MCU has cast other great actors over the years, such as Ben Kingsley, Anthony Hopkins, Cate Blanchett and Tilda Swinton.

In this case, Gorr is arguably one of the most important characters in Thor: Love and Thunder, and that’s due to the acting prowess that Christian Bale always displays.

In an interview with Inverse, Bale spoke about his role and revealed that audiences could have seen a better-judged interpretation of the character. The actor, who is currently lobbying for his upcoming film Amsterdam, gave details of his relationship with director Taika Waititi, among other things.

About the relationship between Thor: Love and Thunder, Taika and myself, I kind of thought that some of the things I did probably wouldn’t make it into the movie, but I just wanted to try and see what happened.

Ultimately, it is and should be a film that the whole family can enjoy. And Chris Hemsworth, a couple of times, looked at me and said, “Hey, that’s a little too much. I don’t think anyone’s going to want to see this unless it’s an R-rated movie.” It was, however, a joy to try. And we had a lot of fun out there shooting some of the scenes and making some of the scene choices, even though some of them didn’t make it to editing.
