Your car doesn’t have Bluetooth? Here the solutions:
Last week we already presented you with a possible solution for this problem:
A Bluetooth radio for retrofitting is the most elegant solution, but it also costs the most by far. You also have to install the radio, which could be a challenge for laypeople. Therefore, this article provides an overview of possible cheaper solutions that really fit every car.
Scenario 1: Your car has neither an AUX nor a USB port
Don’t worry, even if you really don’t think you have the ability to connect your phone to your car’s system, there is still a way. Almost every car has an FM radio and a relic from a time when smoking at the wheel was still perfectly normal: the cigarette lighter.
This model not only has additional USB ports for charging your cell phone, but also the obligatory RGB lighting.
You can use its access to the 12V on-board voltage to power a small FM transmitter, which is also connected to your smartphone via Bluetooth. Then all you have to do is set your FM radio and the transmitter to the same frequency and voila: you’re done use your mobile phone with the system of your car.
No matter how analogue, with this adapter from eBay you can make your car Bluetooth-enabled
Scenario 2: Your car has an AUX connection but no USB
In this case you have a choice: the first solution also works here and you would not have any cables in the center console. If that doesn’t bother you and you’d rather be independent of the FM frequency band, you have another option of connecting your mobile phone to your car’s system via Bluetooth.
A 3.5mm extension is also included in the scope of delivery if your cigarette lighter is not located next to the AUX connection.
Here, the cigarette lighter is used again for the power supply, but the signal is not transmitted to your radio via the FM frequency band, but rather without interference and interruptions via a 3.5mm cable. In addition, you can control your playlist via the supplied interface, without having to look at your cell phone while driving. The interface can be magnetically attached to a sticker on the dashboard.

Scenario 3: Your car has both an AUX connection and USB
Now you have it particularly easy. If your car has both a 3.5mm jack and a USB port, you don’t have to worry about FM frequencies or 12V on-board voltage. The easiest solution is an adapter whose housing is plugged into either the USB port or the AUX port and is connected to the other port with a cable.
The microchip for receiving and converting the Bluetooth signal is located in the small housing (right).
I would prefer an adapter like this due to the larger USB port and the weight of the adapter with the cable not hanging on the sensitive AUX port. But there are even more problematic examples where both the cable and half a Game Boy are only connected to the AUX connection.
