At least 37 people have died during Saturday as a result of torrential rains that have hit northern and eastern India.
Authorities have recorded more than 30 deaths in the last 24 hours due to floods and landslides, according to the ‘Times of India’ newspaper.
Authorities have warned that the death toll could rise as several people are missing.
In the Himachal Pradesh region in the northwest of the country, 21 deaths, 12 injured and six missing have been reported. In the Uttarakhand region in the north and Jharkhand in the east, four fatalities have been reported in each. In Orissa, eastern India, there have been six fatalities; while in Jammu, northwest, two children have died when their house collapsed.
There is multiple damage to infrastructure, including bridges, railway lines, roads—235 remain closed due to landslides—and houses.
