At least 16 people have died after a bus rammed vehicles responding to a traffic accident in Turkey’s southern Gaziantep region, local authorities have said.
The bus overturned and slid some 200 meters until it crashed at the site where emergency services had gathered to respond to a previous incident. A press vehicle was also in the area, according to Anatolia news agency.
Gaziantep Governor Davut Gul visited the scene, where at least 16 people were confirmed dead, including three firefighters, four health workers and two journalists. In addition, 21 people have been injured.
The highway connecting the towns of Gaziantep and Nizip has been partially closed to traffic due to the incident, the exact causes of which are under investigation.
