Amazon recently found itself in hot water after the retail giant sold small spy cameras that could be used for some very creepy purposes. A privacy expert told the BBC that the use of these cameras likely violates British laws.
In the U.S., we have already seen the retailer face a case brought by a woman who claims she was filmed in the bathroom with one of these clothes hook cameras. The man who allegedly recorded her is on trial.
However, the case has also been taken to Amazon, because it advertised the product on its site and said it was “will not attract attention.” The complaint states that Amazon’s use of the camera could have been foreseen and that the company is responsible for promoting that use.
Amazon attempted to have the case dismissed, arguing that it was not responsible for what customers did with the product. However, this attempt was unsuccessful.
Do you think Amazon is responsible for this?
