Amazon Prime Video seems to have set its sights on a live-action adaptation of Sony’s hit “God of War” video game series.
Sony launched the “God of War” video game franchise in 2005 and it wasn’t long before Hollywood became interested in it. Despite the not-so-happy history of video game adaptations, Universal initially tried to make a movie. The film’s production included the co-writing of the writers of the “Pacific Rim” screenplay from 2012. However, the studio left room for interpretations regarding the “staging” of the franchise.
The story behind this franchise focuses on Kratos, a Spartan warrior from Greek mythology who becomes the “God of War”. Action and adventure video games have become Sony’s flagship franchise for PlayStation consoles for the past 17 years.
Amazon and Sony are still in talks for “God of War”
As far as I know, Amazon Prime Video intends to create a live-action TV series based on the idea in the game. Amazon and Sony are still negotiating the terms and conditions, so the series has no official status yet.
The idea of creating a TV series “God of War” belongs to those who are “guilty”, also for “The Expanse”: Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby. Moreover, according to rumors, the creator of “The Wheel of Time”, Rafe Judkins, would have put his “shoulder to work”.
At the moment, no other details are known, not even when we talk about a possible distribution.
It could be said that, given the absolute success of the gaming franchise, a possible “God of War” series could attract a large number of fans. Of course, everything will depend, in equal measure, on how it will be done, but also on the actors who will play the main roles.
