Electronic Arts (EA) has announced that the Apex Legends Global Series Midseason Playoffs will take place at Esports World Cup 2025. The second event of the 2025 Apex Legends season, it marks the first time its esports circuit will be held at an event in the Middle East.
They have also shared that 40 teams from around the world will compete for a share of the $2M up for grabs, one of the largest cash sums ever handed out at an Apex Legends esports event. The event will take place from July 10-14, 2025 as part of the multi-title event to be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia during July and August.
For 2025, the Midseason Playoffs venue directly integrates the ALGS into the Esports World Cup calendar. In the 2024 edition of the Esports World Cup, Apex Legends held a separate event from the ALGS.
Playoffs Format
Introduced as part of the new Apex Legends esports format for 2025, the ALGS Midseason Playoffs will feature 40 teams. Each team will be divided into two groups of 20 players. The groups will play ten matches, with the top seven from each group qualifying directly for the Match Point Finals.
Teams placed between eighth and seventeenth in the group stage will compete in the last chance semifinals, while those ranked between eighteenth and twentieth will be eliminated from the tournament.
In the last chance semifinals, the teams will play another series of ten matches and the top six advance to the Match Point Final. The remaining teams are eliminated. The top 20 teams from the Group Stage and Last Chance Semifinal will compete in the Match Point Final to determine the overall winner.
In addition to the prize, teams competing in the event will also have the opportunity to earn Championship Points, which will determine which teams qualify for the season-ending ALGS Championship.
Apex Legends was one of the first titles confirmed for EWC 2025. The 2024 edition of the tournament was won by European esports organization Alliance, while Team Falcons, recent winners of the ALGS Open, finished runner-up.
