The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has unveiled the 10 Academy Award nominees for Best Picture, and while they all have pretty high scores on Rotten Tomatoes, some are obviously better than others.
Of course, the Academy Awards voting process is a completely different one from Rotten Tomatoes’ prediction system, so these scores become somewhat relative and are not necessarily an indication that the first-place film will exactly be the one to win the statuette.
Still, it shows audience preference. In other words, here’s what the top 10 would look like if movie lovers could decide who wins.
The top 10 Oscar nominees for 2023 include titles like Triangle of Sadness, Avatar: The Way of Water, Elvis, Women Talking, Tár, All Quiet on the Western Front, The Fabelmans, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Top Gun: Maverick and The Banshees of Inisherin.
For reference, the average Rotten Tomatoes critics score is 88 percent, the average top critics score is 84 percent, and the average audience score is 82 percent.
While audiences and critics generally agree, Rotten Tomatoes critics’ scores were, on average, 6 points higher than audience scores, with a few films showing even greater differences between critics and audiences.
Here’s how all the 2023 Oscar nominees rank for Best Picture on Rotten Tomatoes.
Oscar’s most popular films, 10 to 1
