Robert Samuel could be described as a “professional upper”, because that describes his job quite well. He is the owner of Same Ole Line Dudes In New York, which can be paid for to stand in snakes.

You can hire Samuel or one of his 45 employees in order to act and wait for you somewhere – also for days. For example for:

  • Strictly limited designer pieces in fashion stores
  • For a good table in a trendy restaurant
  • Musical tickets on Broadway in the best category
  • For the Switch 2 if you do not have pre -ordered online

This is how the business idea was created

The Line Dudes has been around for 13 years. In 2012 Samuel came to the business idea, while he himself was in a queue to pick up the brand new iPhone 5.

Actually, he should receive a commission check from his work at the communication company AT&T that day. However, this collided with the waiting time for the iPhone – and one had to choose Samuel.

So what to do? On Craigslist, he posted an advertisement that he would wait in the queue to get one of the cell phones. Someone hired him for three hours, but before holding the iPhone in his hands, he jumped off again.

Without further ado, Samuel sold his place in line for $ 100-and promptly put back on the back. According to his own statement, he made $ 300 in one day. The business idea was born.

Time is money

New York is considered the cradle of new trends And in 2013, Samuel directly saddled with the Line Dudes: Cronuts – a mixture of croissant and donut – had their hype at the time. That gave the line dudes the necessary boost for their business, because everyone wanted to try them, but either you had to queue hours or they were already sold out. The line dudes solved the problem for many.

The prices of the line dudes are variable. The basic price is used for $ 50 for at least two hours of waiting. Each additional hour costs $ 25.

  • Rain, snow and extreme temperatures also cost $ 3 per hour.
  • On top $ 15 is calculated for waiting overnight.
  • Urgent inquiries for the same day cost a fee of $ 20.
  • The prices rise due to the season, for example for Christmas.

Tourists in particular belong to Samuel’s customers, which makes sense. If you only visit New York for a few days, you don’t want to stand your legs in a snake. According to ZDF, it already happened that they were up to four days for musical tickets.

In such extreme cases, the employees alternate. You lead lists and make sure that the space will not be snapped away when you have to go to the toilet.

Samuel sees this calling. For him it is not strange at all to be hired and paid for to wait. The ZDF quotes him as follows:

If you think of all the things we humans pay for all the services: we pay people to take care of our dogs, we pay people for baby finish so that they take care of our children. Why can’t we also pay for people to hire themselves and keep the snake for them?

What do you think? Could you imagine paying someone to wait? Or maybe let yourself be paid for yourself? Write us your opinion and experience in the comments!
