Soon first expansion of new Pokemon TCG Mega Evolution – That’s Gaming

The Pokémon Company International today announced the next expansion to the popular Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG): Mega Evolution. This expansion will be available at participating stores worldwide starting Sept. 26, 2025.

The Pokémon TCG expansion Mega Evolution, introduced on Pokémon Day 2025, is the first expansion of the upcoming Mega Evolution. This series marks the long-awaited return of Mega Evolution Pokémon to the Pokémon TCG. These are strong Pokémon that first appeared in the Pokémon TCG in the series XY . They were last seen in the series Sun & Moon. In the expansion Mega Evolution players can find and collect cards of Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, including Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex.

Although Mega Evolution Pokémon ex are strong and have higher HP and deal more attack damage than regular Pokémon ex, they give up three Prize cards when disabled. In addition, Mega Evolution Pokémon ex appear as Basic Pokémon, Stage 1 Pokémon or Stage 2 Pokémon and do not require an additional evolution step. For example, Mega Lucario ex evolves from Riolu instead of Lucario.

Players can additionally look forward to a new style for Ultra Rare Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, which can have a silhouette of the regular version of this Pokémon. Thus, the silhouette of Lucario appears on the Ultra Rare card of Mega Lucario ex. In addition, in Mega Evolution not only Ultra Rare Pokémon and Ultra Rare Supporter cards but also, for the first time, Ultra Rare cards of items, arenas and Pokémon tools.

The expansion includes the following notable cards:

• 10 Mega Evolution Pokémon ex
• 22 Illustration Rare Pokémon
• 22 Ultra Rare Mega Evolution Pokémon ex and Trainer cards
• 10 Special Illustration Rare Mega Evolution Pokémon ex and Supporter cards

Mega Evolution will be available at participating stores worldwide in booster packs, Elite Trainer Boxes and various collections.

Players of the Pokémon TCG can Mega Evolution play even before launch by entering one of the many tryout tournaments being held as part of the Play! Pokémon competition program, taking place starting Sept. 13 at participating independent retailers.

In addition, prior to the release of the traditional version, Trainers can digitally Mega Evolution play from Sept. 11, 2025 via the Pokémon TCG Live app for iOS, Android, macOS and Windows devices. Player can collect and deploy the new Mega Evolution Pokémon ex during battles and get in-game bonuses by logging into the app.
