Acer surprisingly announces a new product, saying Oura, Samsung and Co.

The Acer company is a big name in the computer industry. Now the manufacturer on the Computex in Taipeih with an announcement caused a surprise: with the Freesense-Ring, it gets into the field of wellness trackers.

In this field, top dogs such as oura, ultrahuman and Samsung, who put their foot into the door with the Galaxy Ring last year, feel particularly comfortable. We summarize what the acer the ring does better and where its weaknesses are.

Acer Freesense – the ring can do that on paper

Like the competition, Acer also relies on a titanium alloy during Freesense-Ring and, depending on the size (between 7 and 13), comes to 2 to 3 grams. The ring is also waterproof.

Under the hood, Acer equips his gadget with the usual health functions.

• PPG sensor for measuring the heart rate, heart rate variability and blood oxygen saturation.
• Sleep tracking is also supported.
• With the help of AI (how should it be otherwise) and the accompanying app, the software provides insights and recommendations based on the physiological data.

The Acer Freesense appears in two colors. A release date is unfortunately not yet certain.

In contrast to oura and other competitors, the acer ring makes more attractive: According to the manufacturer, a subscription fee is completely eliminated. Thus, the ring remains free of charge with all functions. According to the website Tom’s Guide, the manufacturer strives for a price between 199 and $ 249.

In this price range, Amazfit’s ring can also be classified, which makes acers winless trackers particularly attractive compared to the sometimes more expensive competition-especially with a view to avoiding an additional subscription for further functions.

The first tests must show whether the ring can keep up with its competitors. We are particularly excited here.

The battery life of a maximum of four days can already be seen as a weak point. With his 4th generation, oura manages up to seven days, similar to Samsung. According to the manufacturer, the RingConn Gen 2 even comes up to 14 days.

Prices and availability

Acer strives for the ring between 199 and $ 249, as already mentioned in the text. However, the manufacturer did not comment on the euro prices. The gadget is scheduled to go on sale in August. In which regions the ring is offered is unclear for the time being.

The color selection is limited to rose gold and black.
