Lego makes its small tires more durable –

While Lego has regularly explored ways to make its sets, packaging and countless bricks more sustainable, the Danish company has now unveiled plans explaining how it plans to make its small tires more sustainable as well.

We are told that the goal of this is to make tires from a third of recyclable materials, specifically old fishing nets, ropes and motor oil. As for how this will work, we are told: “The material is made by reusing discarded ropes and nets from marine vessels, which are then combined with recycled motor oil to reduce reliance on new fossil fuel-based ingredients.”

Lego plans to see these more sustainable tires to begin with in seven of its tire designs, some of which are already present in sets around the world. The goal will be to expand this further, so that by the end of 2025, 120 sets will use these more durable tires and then eventually every set will. After that, we assume the next step will be to make the tires even more sustainable by increasing their recycled content from the 30% these tires will offer.
