“We Are Continuously Looking at Opportunities to Leverage Our Past IP,” according to Playstation – That’s Gaming

PlayStation has an impressive portfolio of IPs, with such heavyweights as God of War, The Last of Us, Horizon, Spider-Man, Uncharted and more. Despite the large number of active and popular franchises, the company also has many dormant franchises that still have a loyal fan base hoping for a comeback in the future. From Jak and Daxter and Sly Cooper to Ape Escape, Killzone, WipeOut and more, PlayStation has a plethora of classic IPs that haven’t been in the spotlight for a long time. However, according to PlayStation CEO Hermen Hulst, the company is open to bringing inactive titles back into the spotlight.

In an interview with Famitsu Holly called PlayStation’s catalog an “important asset” and added that the company is always looking for opportunities to revive existing franchises, in addition to creating new IPs.

“Our many IP assets are an important asset for PlayStation, and as part of our efforts to strengthen our portfolio, we are constantly looking at opportunities to leverage old IPs and develop new franchises,” Hulst said.

Astro Bot proudly and prominently paid homage to many of PlayStation’s dormant franchises (including some of those mentioned above), but of course fans are hoping for full-fledged new parts. As fun as those easter eggs and cameos were, the desire remains. Whether we’ll ever see a new Jak and Daxter-game get, remains conjecture, but one thing is certain: there is no shortage of demand.
