Super Bowl LVIII, thanks to Taylor Swift, became the most-watched U.S. TV event since the moon landing – and the most-watched event since the Moon.

If you had any doubts about the size and scale of Taylor Swift’s rabid fan base, the Swifties, the TV data for the latest Super Bowl will likely allay any concerns. Because the marriage of Swift’s presence and the sheer scale of the annual largest U.S. sporting event resulted in Super Bowl LVIII being the most-watched TV event in the country since the moon landing in 1969.
The Super Bowl clocked in at 123.4 million viewers, which, while a huge number, still stumbles quite a bit over the Apollo 11 moon landing, which reportedly peaked at about 150 million viewers in the U.S. According to Nielsen TV data, about 202.4 million people tuned in at one point to watch the Super Bowl on all TV networks, but that the main CBS broadcast was the one that capped the 123 million figure.
