Ethereum developers set a date for the Dencun testnet

The Ethereum developers have confirmed dates for the deployment of the Dencun update on test networks Goerli, Sepolia and Holesky.

Yesterday, at their traditional fortnightly meeting broadcast online, the main developers of the Ethereum have agreed on a test period for the next blockchain update named Dencun.

The engineers thus plan to deploy a first version of the hardfork on the Goerli test network as early as January 17, 2024, then test the update on Sepolia on January 30 and finally on the new Holesky testnet on February 7.

Dencun includes several EIPs, including “Proto-Danksharding”, which will reduce the amount of transactions on layers2. The update should also enable EIPs 6780, 1153 and 6475.

The developers of the second-largest L1 blockchain on the market also mentioned the planned fork after Dencun called Pectra or Prague/Electra. They were particularly divided over whether Pectra should concentrate on the “Verge” update or prioritize smaller code changes that could be shipped more quickly.
