India ready to launch historic mission to the moon -.

India is launching its third lunar mission, hoping to become the first country to explore the celestial body’s south pole.

The Chandrayaan-3 craft has just taken off at the time of writing and will reach the moon on Aug. 23 or 24. If successful, India will be the fourth country in history to achieve a soft landing on the moon.

India’s first lunar mission took place in 2008, which hoped to find water on the lunar surface. The second mission, launched in 2019, was only partially successful, and while its orbiter circled the moon every day, the rover failed to land.
