Gollum developer makes apology – That’s Gaming

Many have been looking forward to The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, and after several delays, Daedalic Entertainment’s action-adventure game was finally released earlier this week. However, it did not go as the developer had hoped. The game has been widely criticized by critics and the public alike, and currently has a staggeringly low score of 36 on Metacritic (and 41 for the PC version).

Following the overwhelmingly negative reception, the developer has taken to Twitter to apologize to players and state that they are “deeply sorry” about the state of the game’s release.

“We would like to sincerely apologize for the disappointing experience many of you had with The Lord of the Rings: Gollum at launch,” Daedalic Entertainment wrote. “We deeply acknowledge and regret that the game did not meet the expectations we set for ourselves and for our dedicated community. We sincerely apologize for any disappointment this may have caused.

“Our goal as a studio and passionate The Lord of the Rings fans has always been to tell an immersive adventure with a compelling story. Creating a story set in Middle-earth as our playground has been the greatest honor – and the greatest challenge we have faced to date.”

While many of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum’s biggest problems are inherent in the game’s design and likely can never be fixed, Daedalic Entertainment says they are working on fixing bugs and technical issues.

“At Daedalic, we understand that the success of a game depends on the enjoyment and satisfaction of its players,” the developer said. “We sincerely appreciate your feedback and have actively listened to your voices, read your comments and analyzed the suggestions for constructive criticism you have provided.
