Barbie introduces its first doll with Down syndrome -.

Barbie toy maker Mattel’s latest attempt to make its dolls more inclusive introduces us to a new kind of Barbie with Down syndrome.

Mattel said it worked with the National Down Syndrome Society in the United States to create the doll, which differs from other Barbies in many ways. It has a shorter frame, rounder shape, smaller ears and a longer torso.

“She wears a pink necklace with three upward chevrons representing the three copies of the 21st chromosome, as well as pink ankle-foot orthoses,” Said Mattel in describing the doll.

“Our goal is to enable all children to see themselves in Barbie, while also encouraging children to play with dolls that don’t look like themselves,” the executive vice president and global head of Barbie & Dolls said in a statement.
