An artist has used artificial intelligence to see what some of the world’s richest people would look like if they were poor.
Gokul Pillai lightly edited images in Photoshop from the Midjourney app, which generates art using AI.
For the experiment, Pillai used well-known figures such as Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Donald Trump and Mark Zuckerberg. In the algorithm-generated images, the world’s rich are dressed in shabby clothes and have Indian slums in the background.
The project took almost two days to complete, according to the artist.
The inspiration for the project was the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire, which Pillai recently re-watched.

Images posted by the artist on Instagram have become very popular on the internet. People on the Internet have said that Mark Zuckerberg looks more human in the image Pillai took than he does in reality. One of the jokes made about the Facebook co-founder is that the billionaire is actually a robot.
Here’s what some of the world’s billionaires (we’ve selected the tech-related ones) would look like if they were poor:
Bill Gates – co-founder of Microsoft
Elon Musk – CEO of Twitter, SpaceX and Tesla
Jeff Bezos – founder of Amazon and Blue Origin
Mark Zuckerberg – CEO of Facebook
Warren Buffett – CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, second largest investor in Apple
