Here’s how the DEA used Apple’s AirTags –

Apple’s AirTags are mostly designed as a way to help find lost items, but government agencies have a use for them as well, according to a new report from Forbes that showed how the Drug Enforcement Agency managed to discover illegal activity.

Essentially, the DEA used AirTags to detect packages they thought would be used for illegal purposes. For example, a machine that turned powder into pills was expected to be involved in criminal activity.

The DEA turned to AirTags through common GPS devices because the usual devices they used sometimes did not work and were less reliable. However, it seems that this pairing may not be entirely future-proof because Apple’s AirTags notify people when an AirTag is tracking them, meaning they may not be the most discreet method of tracking.
