Xiaomi 13 Lite to be Europe’s first Android phone with iPhone-like “dynamic island”

Chinese brand Xiaomi often demonstrates that it’s an Apple fan, from the design of its stores to the way its Android interface, MIUI, is inspired by iOS. However, Xiaomi is the first brand in the market that seems to be adopting the “dynamic island” design defining element of the new iPhone 14 Pro models. Xiaomi’s first device with the dynamic island is set to launch in Europe very soon, under the name Xiaomi 13 Lite.

However, the Xiaomi 13 Lite is not a 100% new phone. It’s already been available for a few months in China under the name Xiaomi Civi 2, and the version that arrives in the west won’t be much different in terms of hardware specs. Even though it has a “dynamic island” on the front, Xiaomi’s software isn’t similar to Apple’s, so you get more of a large cutout without the software benefits of multitasking. Fortunately, there are already community-developed solutions to this.

The Xiaomi 13 Lite 5G will launch with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset “on board” just like the Civi 2, and will integrate a high-performance 6.55″ OLED display with Full HD resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate and 1,000 nits brightness. Also, the 4,500 mAh battery will charge at 67W, and the plug adapter will be included in the box.

On the camera front, the “dynamic island” houses two 32-megapixel sensors, one with a wide and one ultra-wide lens. On the back, the main camera gets a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 sensor, and the ultra-wide camera gets a 20-megapixel sensor. There’s also a 2 megapixel macro camera, but no one will probably use it.

The phone is already ready for launch and will most likely debut at Mobile World Congress 2023. An unboxing video has been published on Twitter already, along with the full list of hardware specs.
