Samsung prepares Galaxy M14 5G, the 6000mAh battery version of Galaxy A14 5G

Identified by the model name SM-M146B, the Galaxy M14 5G retains the Exynos 1330 chipset found in the A-series model, adjusting the case dimensions to accommodate a larger battery.

The Galaxy A14 5G was announced for the US market at a price of $199 US, $50 less than the A13 5G in 2022. Primarily aimed at emerging markets such as India and some European countries, the Galaxy M14 5G takes on the design philosophy of the S23 series, with individual cameras on the back without an “island” surrounding them. Of course, the construction is plastic, but that only helps to offset the weight of the larger capacity battery.

Presumably, in the 6.8-inch LCD formula the entry-level chipset will strongly benefit from the increased capacity 6000 mAh battery (compared to 5000 mAh in the A13 5G). Unfortunately, the FHD+ resolution is changed to HD+, benefiting battery consumption at the expense of image clarity. Also for cost-cutting reasons, Samsung has kept the “fast” charging speed to a conservative 15W, bringing the wait time to around three hours for full charge.

The photo setup has a 48MP camera as its centerpiece, with secondary sensors playing more of a decorative role. Sadly, while we were at least getting a 13MP front camera with the Galaxy A14 5G, the M14 5G tempers expectations even more, delivering a front camera with just 8MP resolution.

With 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, this phone seems dedicated to those who don’t expect too much from a mobile device. Fortunately, there’s a microSD slot.

The phone launches with Android 13 out of the box with OneUI 5, but unlike other Galaxy A models, it will only get two system updates and four years of security updates. The Galaxy M14 5G could be released sometime in March 2023, but pricing and availability by region are unknown at this time.
