Microsoft has already invested $1 billion in developing ChatGPT, the AI made famous for its ability to generate genuine essays from requests of a few sentences is about to be integrated with Microsoft Office products and the Bing search engine.
Microsoft has big plans to improve products and services in its portfolio by including AI-assisted features. According to sources cited by The Information, Microsoft Office users will be able to use ChatGPT services to generate quick responses to emails opened with the Outlook client and speed up the creative process when drafting Word documents.
Integrated with the Bing search service, ChatGPT’s AI will be responsible for generating text responses to user-initiated searches. For example, when searching for a specific piece of information, you could receive the auto-generated response in text form, supported by relevant links to the sources from which that information was extracted.
The partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, was announced as early as 2019, with the Windows developer contributing including by providing its own Azure AI infrastructure to train the GPT-3.5 engine on which the famous chatbot is based.
Unlike the classic function responsible for autocompletion of common expressions such as dates and introductory formulas, the AI provided by partner OpenAI could generate entire paragraphs in addition to the text started by the user, assisting the creative process with suggestions for expression and information extracted from external sources.
According to the cited source, teams of software engineers and researchers have been working for over a year to develop AI tools responsible for auto-generating email responses and text documents in a way that protects the privacy of information retrieved from users.
Hinting at possible plans to develop an AI-based virtual assistant, Microsoft also recently announced VALL-E, a speech synthesizer that can mimic any person’s voice based on analysis of a few-second voice sample.
