Nubia Z50, the cheapest phone with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Also includes an unusual main camera

Nubia is one of the Chinese brands that still manages to survive in the market, despite not exactly great sales. The company’s phones focus on the Chinese market, but they are also available in international variants with software equipped with Google services for those who want more “different” devices. Its new flagship, the Nubia Z50, comes with specs comparable to other manufacturers, but with a less “traditional” camera system.

The Nubia Z50 is something of a “flagship killer”

In fact, Nubia phones have had more unusual cameras for a few generations now, replacing the main camera, which generally offers a 24mm-equivalent focal length on a full-frame, 35mm-equivalent focal length camera. This perspective is thus narrower, but is more suitable for certain types of photography, such as street photography or portraits.

This uses a 64-megapixel Sony IMX787 sensor, generally popular in the mid-range phone area, but good enough for most users. The Nubia Z50 integrates only one back camera, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide autofocus camera that can also be used as a macro camera.

The hardware configuration is otherwise pretty “normal” for a current flagship: 6.67″ AMOLED display with 144Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, 16GB RAM, up to 1TB UFS 4.0 storage and a 5,000 mAh battery with 80W charging.

Pricing starts at 2,999 yuan, or about 400 euros, for the base variant with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage, and goes up to 5,999 yuan, or 810 euros, for the top variant with 16 GB RAM and 1 TB storage. This makes it the cheapest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 phone to date.
