Galaxy A14 5G shows up in GeekBench tests with MediaTek processor and below 4G performance

Recently, a Galaxy A14 4G model was spotted in the GeekBench database, suggesting that Samsung is preparing to launch this entry-level model in the smartphone series in 2023. Now, the 4G model has also been listed on the GeekBench site as well, but this time in the 5G variant, which is equipped with a completely different chipset: MediaTek’s Dimensity 700. It seems, however, that despite the higher transfer speeds, this version of the phone will be inferior in terms of performance.

Galaxy A14 5G could be weaker than the same model in 4G variant

Previous tests have revealed that Samsung is using an Exyos 1300 chipset for the 4G variant, which offers decent performance in the “mid-entry” area where this phone is positioned. The 5G model, however, manages to achieve significantly lower scores in both Single-Core and Multi-Core tests.

The SM-A146P model with 5G and MediaTek chipset achieved scores of 522 points in Single-Core and 1,710 points in Multi-Core, while the 4G variant with Exynos achieved 770 points in Single-Core and 2,151 points in Multi-Core.

The 5G model will ship in a configuration befitting the market segment the phone falls into, with 4GB of RAM. However, it looks like Samsung will offer Android 13 out of the box on this model, even if it’s a lower-end one. Theoretically, Samsung is supposed to provide 4 years of system updates on all Galaxy A phones, so we may even see Android 17 on this model sometime in the future.

With a triple camera and a 5,000 mAh battery, this model could easily be recommended in its price range, especially if it comes with an OLED screen. However, perhaps the 4G variant would be preferable, due to the extra performance.
