An Apple Watch saved the life of a woman buried alive by her husband

A woman was able to call the police via an Apple Watch before she was buried alive by her husband in a forest, NBC News reports. The incident happened in the US city of Seattle.

The victim was attacked in her home by her 53-year-old husband, Chae Kyong An, after he told her he wanted a divorce. The man hit the woman, then bound her with duct tape. In a moment of the attacker’s carelessness, his wife managed to alert the authorities via the smart watch she was wearing.

Kyong An caught her and destroyed her smartwatch with a hammer, then took the woman to a nearby forest and buried her in a shallow grave.

Fortunately, the woman escaped and was found by police. She said, when she met the lawmen, that her husband was trying to kill her. The victim still had tape taped to her body and was very frightened. The assailant was apprehended and is in custody.

Apple Watch devices include a service called Emergency SOS, specifically designed to help people call emergencies when they don’t have a phone handy.

Apple has introduced new features to protect users, on the iPhone 14 family of smartphones. The phones have a road accident detection system. Crash Detection can identify four different types of accidents – rollover, side, front and rear impact – and alert emergency services.
