Blinken goes to Palacio de la Moneda to meet with Boric as part of his Latin America tour

The U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, was received this Wednesday by the President of Chile, Gabriel Boric, at the Palacio de la Moneda as part of his tour of Latin America, which includes stops in Colombia, Chile and Peru.

Blinken, who is in the region until October 7, reaffirmed to Boric Washington’s support for “democratic governance, bilateral opportunities for trade and investment, regional security and human rights, migration management in the region and climate change mitigation”.

“We had a very good conversation with Blinken around the strengthening of democratic institutions, sustainable development and trade exchange, in addition to increased ambition to address climate crisis. We will continue working for the development of the region,” reiterated the Chilean president on Twitter.

For her part, the Chilean Foreign Minister, Antonia Urrejola, who also held a meeting with the U.S. Secretary of State at the Foreign Ministry headquarters, said that the visit was made with the aim of discussing bilateral relations between the two nations, as reported by Radio Cooperativa.

Blinken also met on Monday with the Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, at the Casa de Nariño, where he discussed behind closed doors internal issues such as peace in Colombia, the fight against drug trafficking or Human Rights.
