British Royal Household releases first photograph of Elizabeth II’s gravestone

The British Royal Household has published this Saturday the first photograph with diffusion of the tombstone of Elizabeth II after her burial last September 19 in the Chapel of King George VI at Windsor Castle.

It is a Belgian black marble inscribed with the names of Elizabeth II; her husband, Prince Philip; and her parents, George VI and Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.

The tombstone is already in the Chapel of King George VI, where the ashes of Princess Margaret, whose name does not appear, however, on the inscription, also rest.

On the stone one can read the inscriptions “George VI / 1895-1952”, “Elizabeth / 1900-2002”, a star of the Order of the Garter and then “Elizabeth II / 1926-2022” and “Philip / 1921-2021”. Several floral bouquets and wreaths also appear in the photograph. The previous slab had only the names of George VI and the Queen Mother in gold lettering.

Windsor Castle, the final scene of the state funeral and burial of Elizabeth II, is scheduled to reopen to public visits next week.

There they will be able to visit the remains of the vast majority of the kings and queens of England since Henry VII, buried there in the 16th century.
