The Louvre Museum and the Palace of Versailles are also switching off their lights early

The Minister of Culture of France, Rima Abdul Malak, announced Saturday that both the pyramid of the Louvre Museum and the Palace of Versailles will advance the shutdown of its lighting, as already announced for the Eiffel Tower, in a “symbolic measure” to encourage energy savings.

“We are going to turn off the Louvre pyramid earlier, starting tonight. Instead of turning off its pyramid at 1 a.m., the Louvre will turn it off” at 11 p.m., Abdul Malak explained in an interview on France 2. The Eiffel Tower will bring forward from September 23 its 1 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. switch-off.

“We will also turn off one hour earlier, at 22.00, the facade of the Palace of Versailles from next week (…). These symbolic measures are important to mobilize citizens, but they are not enough,” argued the minister.

“The important thing is to work concretely on how to act for the ecological transition in our museums, in our theaters, in our cinemas, in all cultural spaces in France,” she pointed out.
